What is the ACE program?
ACE stands for Accelerated Cluster for Excellence, and it's more than just an honors program.  Tates Creek High School's ACE program is a program committed to providing a challenging but nurturing educational environment with real-world opportunities for academically gifted and talented students.  The rigorous ACE curriculum prepares students for the most selective in-state and out-of-state universities.

Students from the class of 2011 and beyond no longer need to apply for admittance into the ACE program.  The ACE class of 2010 will be the last class that is able to earn an ACE Diploma.  Because TCHS is now an International Baccalaureate (IB) school, our ACE program has morphed into a Pre-IB program, open to all students.  Any students interested in applying for IB (which is a 2-year, junior-senior program) are encouraged to sign up for ACE classes their freshman and sophomore years.  These are rigorous courses that will better prepare them for the upperclassman IB program.  Click HERE to review the ACE Pre-IB Diploma program.

How is being a member of ACE different from just being in advanced classes?
The purpose of the ACE program is to offer selected students a rigorous college preparatory program which includes experiential learning components and a culminating project.  One vital and unique component of the ACE program is required community service.  In the ninth grade, a mentoring/tutoring project is done on the Tates Creek campus at Tates Creek Elementary School.  Sophomores complete a group service project which is determined by the students.  Juniors and seniors have a wide variety of opportunities for required community service projects related to individual students' varied interests.

The ACE core classes are adjusted to be more challenging than even our advanced classes.
The Science curriculum, for example, is rearranged so that ACE students take Physics their freshman year.  Physics is a class that is typically taken by senior students only.  This knowledge of physics early on will serve to enhance their studies in both Biology and Chemistry.

Quarterly, each class in the four core content areas also offers an ACE seminar.  Local role models, exemplary in their chosen field and dedicated to civic responsibility, share real world experiences with students.

How and when do I apply for the ACE program?

Students from the class of 2011 and beyond no longer need to apply for admittance into the ACE program.  The ACE class of 2010 will be the last class that is able to earn an ACE Diploma.  Because TCHS is becoming an International Baccalaureate (IB) school, our ACE program has morphed into a Pre-IB program, open to all students.

Eighth grade students (only up to and including the class of 2010) seeking admission to the ACE program must submit a completed application and participate in entrance exams at Tates Creek High School.  Math, science, and writing assessments will be administered and scored by members of the freshmen ACE teaching staff.
