Two graduates have been Presidential Scholars, and three have become Rhodes Scholars. The 1990-91, 1991-92 and 1994-95 Academic Teams were Academic State Champions. The 1994-95 team placed 14th in the National Knowledge Masters Open. In addition to the academic program, Tates Creek also excels in the athletic program, where many state championships have been won.  The marching band has a fine record of high achievement in Kentucky Music Educators Association competitions and regularly competes on an interstate level in Bands of America competitions.  The concert bands, jazz band, percussion group, indoor drum line, and color guard round out a comprehensive music program that has won many honors.

KERA Implementation

Tates Creek High School, a rewarded school under the KIRIS Assessment, elected a School-Based Decision Making Council in June 1995. Tates Creek has committees composed of faculty and parents that meet all year to evaluate curriculum, alternate scheduling, technology, public relations, staff development, testing, and transformation plans. In fact a transformation plan is developed and refined annually. Through professional development activities and in-service, teachers are being trained to change their teaching methods and activities to better implement the goals of KERA. Tates Creek is the only Fayette County high school that has a career exploration course - a support and transitional course of incoming, selected 9th graders. Much has been done in technology through the renovation. The school is wired for the most advanced computer and communications systems available. The after-school tutoring program for 2 days per week helps students in math, science, social studies, and English. Tates Creek High School will continue to work toward achieving the goals set forth in the implementation of KERA. The school adopted a block schedule (alternate 4x4) in 1997.
