Circulation Procedures
Checking Out Materials
Students may have up to 5 items at a time on their account (unless one is a graphing calculator, then you may have 6). Please note the different lengths of time you may have items out. Unless an item is on hold for someone else, you can renew it so that you can have more time. You don't need the book with you to renew. Just give us your last name!
Regular Books - 3 weeks
Audio Books or Playaways - 3 weeks
Graphing Calculators - 1 Semester, Renew in December to keep it all year. (You must have a signed User Agreement form on file before you can check out graphing calculators. You can get these from a librarian at the circulation desk.)
Reference Books - Generally, these are not to be checked out except by teachers. In certain cases, we may allow a student to check out a reference book overnight. See the librarians for help. You may also make photocopies of the pages you need for $0.10 each.
Magazines - These are not in our regular system. They are on display for students to read while in the library. Students can also ask to sign their name on a magazine that they like. If no one else has already signed for it, that student will get to keep the magazine once the new one arrives.
Newspapers - Do not get checked out. They are available near the magazines on a first come, first served basis. See a librarian.
Electronic Equipment - (cameras, laptops, CD players, etc.) Can not be checked out to students. A teacher must assume responsibility for these in order for a student to use them.
Videos and DVD's - Can not be checked out to students. A teacher must assume responsibility for these.
**The library staff reserves the right to modify the number of items a student may have out and for how long. This usually occurs only in cases where a student has had a history of not returning books. These situations will be handled on a case by case basis.
Holds
If there is a book checked out to someone else and you would like to have it when it is returned, you may ask a librarian to place a HOLD for you. Once the book is returned, you will get a notice through your A-2 teacher letting you know that the book is here and you can check it out.
Sometimes, the librarians will hold a book at the circulation desk for a student. Usually this occurs if we discover there is an overdue book on the account that needs to be turned in first. It will be returned to the shelves after 7 days if it is not claimed.
Inter-Library Loans
TCHS Library doesn't have what you're looking for? We can often get a book you want from another library in the county. Ask a librarian to do an interlibrary loan for you. If another school has it, we can usually get it here in about 3 to 5 days. Our normal circulation procedures apply to ILL's too.
Returning Materials
It is best to hand graphing calculators directly to one of the librarians. For all other materials, there are two convenient locations to drop off your returns. One is at the circulation desk inside the library. The other is a metal slot in the main hallway just across from the Guidance Office. Materials in both locations are checked in several times a day to ensure it will be taken off of your account.
