Library Fines and Lost Books

The library staff assumes that anyone who checks out books or other materials is taking on the personal responsibility to make sure that items are returned on time and in good condition so that others can use them, too.

All fines collected go toward maintaining the library collection and program for our students.

Late Books

Fines are calculated through our computer system for anything that is past due.  The charge is $0.10 per school day for each late item.  Students will not be charged for days we are not in school (weekends, holidays, etc.)  Fines will accumulate daily until they reach the $10.00 mark where they will stay.

The library sends out Overdue Notices through your A-2 teacher every two weeks.  ONCE YOU GET AN OVERDUE NOTICE, YOU ARE ALREADY BEING CHARGED A FINE!  It is important not to ignore these notices and get your books in as soon as possible.

You may ask the librarians to check the status of your account at any time.  We highly recommend asking us at least once a month to see what fines, if any,  you have and what is checked out under your name.  You are responsible for your account.

Lost Books

If you lose a book, it is expected that you will take on the responsibility of replacing it.  This can be done by either buying a similar copy and donating it to the library or having the replacement cost of the book added to the fines on your account.

Any student that has reached $10.00 or more in fines or has an overdue book still out will not be allowed to check out any new materials.  Please see the librarians to discuss what you can do to continue checking out books.

Fines will stay on your account as long as you are a Fayette County Student.  Even if you move to another school within the district, the fine follows you.  It is best to pay them off as soon as you can.  Students at Tates Creek High School are not allowed to participate in their graduation ceremony if they still owe materials or fines to the school.  This includes the library.  Don't wait until your senior year to take care of your fines or lost books.
