Both our girls and boys are top 5 teams in the state!
Coach Crosby’s Top 10 Performances:
10. Our girls 1600m Relay (Jasmine Franklin, Zephir Griffen, Sara Antel, and Natasha Druggan). With two girls out, our team placed 6th with a great anchor leg by Natasha Druggan.
9. Damon Boggs in the 400m. Damon has set the standard for all freshmen sprinters in the 400m. He led the pack with a 57.89
8. Our girls 3200m Relay (Bridget Stichnot, Natasha Druggan, Courtney Hatch, Betsy Goodin). Bridget was hurt, but still managed to give her team mates a position with potential!
7. Keyiyah Wells in the 60m. Full of nerves and a slight trip at the start, 8th grader Keyiyah placed 12th out of 97 girls!
6. Jasmine Franklin in the 60m Hurdles. Jasmine hasn’t run the hurdles since the summer. She flew out of the blocks and placed 3rd out of 27 athletes. She was the only 9th grader in the top 15.
5. Luther Dankwa in the 400m. Luther was tripped during the first 10 meters of the race. He showed HEART by getting up and completing his first race for Tates Creek. The respect he gained was tremendous!
4. Bridget Stichnot in the 2 Mile. Bridget sustained a fast pace and set the tone for the race.
3. James Coleman, Ty Sparks, Josh Carter, and Taylor Johnson in the 400m/1600m Relay. All four of these guys reminded that Tates Creek has a dynasty in the 400m/1600m Relay. Coaches are asking me to borrow just 1 or 2 of our 400m sprinters. We are here to stay! I would bet that most other schools were thinking that we were going to have a down year after losing Ken, Jamyle, and Quinton. NOT! All four of these guys ran 1-2 seconds faster than last year at this time!
2. Daniel Norman in the Mile. Most everybody in the state is wondering who Daniel is and where he was in cross country. A 4:41 mile in January is amazing. Daniel ran a great race. He was in 8th place with 400 meters to go. He finished with a 65 second 400m to finish 2nd!
1. Betsy Goodin in the 400m. Both Coach Breathett and I are saying “WOW!” She has been playing basketball and hasn’t even trained with the sprinters and managed to run a 61.57 400m giving her a 2nd place finish. She knocked us off our feet!!!
We will spend the next 4 weeks preparing for the indoor state championship. The Mason Dixon Games will be scored and include additional races/events. Can both boys and girls improve on this weekend’s performance? If we are confident, we will!
