We have earned the top spot in the state. We have beat the “who’s who” of Kentucky’s track and field elite. Trinity, Station, Daviess County (Breathett’s fav.), Henderson County (my new fav.), CovCath, St. X, Male . . . The list goes on and on. WE ARE ON THE TOP! We EARNED every place. We EARNED every point.
This is what makes me smile about our championship: It wasn’t earned by just 4-5 guys. It took a team! We only had two 1st places (Derrick Brown in the pole vault and our boy’s 1600m relay). Our championship was EARNED with sweat and determination by all. It was a true team effort. 11 out of the 12 guys on our roster scored points.
The girls didn’t just stand and watch the boys with jaws dropped. They competed at their best and showed that Tates Creek Girls track is on the right path. The girls 3200m relay squad ran one too many laps (after the field judge assured me that they were OK with lap counters) and beat more than ½ the field! Latonya tied for 5th in the 55m, Lara placed 2nd in the high jump, Bridget ran a great 3000, Courtney showed us that she will be a great mid-distance runner for Creek! Our 800m relay placed 12th out of more than 40 teams. We ran our best time in more then 3 years!
With all that said, we have now earned the giant target on our backs. Not on our chests, our backs. They will only be looking at our backs! We have EARNED the target and we need to continue to EARN it. We have the entire month of March to heal and get ready for the outdoor season. We will only get stronger as more members join from winter sports, but that doesn’t mean that we need to work any less. The determination, dedication, and the perseverance need to be at their highest mark continuously. If we continue to be confident in what we do, we will continue to be champions.
Be confident!
Know that you can work hard.
Know that you can run faster.
Know that you can jump higher.
Know that you can jump further.
Know that you can throw further.
Always Confident!
